Arcadia, Calif. – The Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) has announced the winners of its 2022 statistical awards for leading California owners. Reddam Racing was leading owner in total purse earnings; Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC led all owners by number of California wins as well as most California starts; and the partnership of Pegram, Watson and Weitman took leading owner for most California stakes wins.
Reddam Racing runners earned a total of $2,653,978 in California last year, with 31 wins from 230 starts, including four stakes wins. Their top runners included Del Mar Derby winner Slow Down Andy, Eddie’s New Dream, winner of the California Distaff Handicap and Irish O’Brien Stakes, Absolutely Zero, winner of the Fasig-Tipton Futurity, multiple stakes-placed runner Awake At Midnyte, Fun Money, An Agent Mistake, and Don’t Swear Dave.
Tommy Town Thoroughbreds had 52 wins from 251 California starts, for total earnings of $1,659,404. Their top runners included Golden Gate Debutante winner Sally’s Sassy, Empire House, winner of the California Governor’s Cup Stakes, Shoppingforpharoah, Day Plan, Dynasty of Her Own, and Man Oh Man.
Michael Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman teamed up for an impressive 12 stakes wins in 2022. Their top runners included Defunded, winner of the Native Diver and Awesome Again stakes, Cave Rock, winner of the American Pharoah Stakes and Del Mar Futurity, Midnight Memories, winner of the Zenyatta and Torrey Pines stakes, Havnameltdown, winner of the Best Pal and Bob Hope stakes, Palos Verdes Stakes winner Essential Wager, Speed Boat Beach, winner of the Cecil B. DeMille and Speakeasy stakes, and Capote Stakes winner Hard to Figure.
All winners will be recognized at TOC’s Annual Meetings at Del Mar Racetrack on Saturday, August 12 and at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday, October 21.
