SPEAKERS

Jen Shah is a Tax Director for Dean Dorton, a CPA and consulting firm with over 300 professionals in Kentucky and North Carolina.  She leads the firm’s equine practice and advises horse and farm owners across the country on tax and business operational matters. After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a BS in Accounting, she began her public accounting career at a Big 4 accounting firm where she specialized in individual international tax matters. She has spoken at many equine conferences and symposiums, including the OwnerView National Thoroughbred Owner Conference, the Saratoga Institute on Equine, Racing & Gaming Law Conference, and the University of Kentucky National Conference on Equine Law. She serves as treasurer on the board of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, as a member of the Horse Country, Inc. finance committee and as a member of the Equine Financial Group. She resides in Lexington, KY.

Mary Forney was named Executive Director in September, 2016, having worked for TOC since 2004 as Director of Operations. She has worked in the California horse racing industry for more than 30 years, including 13 years at Santa Anita, most recently as Simulcast Coordinator. She also worked for the California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association for nine years. Mary is a magna cum laude graduate of Cal State Los Angeles, where she earned a BS in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society. She served on the board of directors of the California Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Foundation and is currently on the board of the Winners Foundation. She was named Outstanding Woman in Thoroughbred Horse Racing in 2006 by the California Legislature.
