W.C. Racing’s Sharla Rae wins California Oaks at Golden Gate Fields

W.C. Racing’s Sharla Rae notched her third career stakes victory Saturday at Golden Gate Fields in the $50,000-added California Oaks. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Afleet Alex is trained by Doug O’Neill and was ridden by Silvio Amador. She covered the 1-1/16 miles in 1:44.46.

In the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Stakes at Los Alamitos in September, Sharla Rae battled 1-5 favorite Into Oblivion the length of the stretch before prevailing by a neck. In the $75,420 Pike Place Dancer Stakes at Golden Gate Fields in October, Sharla Rae squeezed through a small hole at the top of the stretch and rallied between horses at the eighth pole to score again by a neck. In her most recent race, she finished eighth in the $75,000 Blue Norther Stakes at Santa Anita on Jan. 1.
