Lord Nelson dominates Speakeasy Stakes for Peachtree Stable

Peachtree Stable’s Lord Nelson dominated eight rivals en route to a powerful 6-3/4 length win in Monday’s $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes for two-year-olds. Trained by Bob Baffert, Lord Nelson completed the race in 1:09.25 under jockey Martin Garcia. A Kentucky-bred colt by Pulpit, Lord Nelson has won two of three starts for career earnings of $123,000.

Peachtree Stable owner John Fort caught the racing bug as a teenager in South Carolina while watching Hall of Fame trainers Max Hirsh and Woody Stephens at a nearby training center. A graduate of University of South Carolina and top ranked amateur polo player, Fort purchased his first thoroughbred in 1976. He began Peachtree Stable in 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Peachtree had their biggest victory to date in the 2011 G -1 Kentucky Oaks with Plum Pretty. Other stakes winners to score in the Peachtree silks include Mythical Power, Bonnie Blue Flag, High Cotton, Flashpoint, Wild Horses and Red Giant.
